Contigliano to Wilderness (3h/10km)

The  child within

Heaven you'll never find
If you not look with children eyes
Chained and bound you'll stay forever
Maybe clever, never wise
Laugh when laughter fills your heart
Cry when sadness claims its right
Love when love comes down to you
Surrender - and you'll win the fight
Dance and sing, exclaim your joy
Let the world share what you feeling
Crush the walls that caught your soul
And your wounds will find their healing

Thursday, 1.6.2017, Wilderness near Prati

Today our final destination was
Stroncone but as it turned out we shouldn't reach it.But I'll tell the story from the beginning. At first we headed towards Greccio, a little beautiful village were we had a nice encounter with two older ladies who gave us advice for our further way. Then we passed the nearby monastery and my aversion against churches vanished for a while when I entered the most impressing little chapel I ever saw. It was a place breathing peace, joy and harmony, showing that Christianity is not only a religion of pain and endurance, but also of hope and life. Afterwards a long, steep climb through the mountain woods were waiting for us once more, rewarding us with a view over the whole Rieti valley. As we arrived on the highest point of our day tour we sat down for a short rest - and decided not to leave anymore.Unfortunately it turned out that we weren't able to cancel our booking in Stroncone without paying, but a call with booking.com solved this problem too. so that's another recommendation - their hotline and staff is really, really helpful and friendly - a big thanks on this way!
So we decided to erect our tent at this spot, when suddenly a herd of cows and horses entered the clearing. Was a delight to see them enjoying freedom, their colts and calves where jumping around playfully, looking at us interested but without any sign of fear or shyness.
Then the shepherd arrived too and we decided to try to ask him if its allowed to do camping at this spot.
A remarkable thing in Italy is that barely anyone is able to speak English - but this nice guy was even able to speak German! He suggested to change the spot and described the way to an even better location not far away. We followed his advice and he was right - sheltered by trees and bushes around, near a little lake, with a perfect view on the sunset over the mountain top. He also told us about a little village not far away, where we went to for getting some water and food. It's called Prati and has a big camping site - and a small closed shop.  But we found a small bar where we asked for the possibility to eat. Unfortunately the kitchen already was closed, so we decided to buy just some sweets and water. Suddenly the owner offered us to prepare some panini at least. When we left back to our tent we were fully equipped and already looking forward to a dinner in the woods.
So today ended with bread, beer and self cooked coffee while we were watching the sun vanishing behind the top of the trees.
It's hard to imagine that there could be a better day, but the cammino always surprises you...so I'm looking forward what the next day will bring to us.
Thanks! I'm grateful!
